This summer, June 9th-14th we will be visiting with our Church-supported missionaries Brad and Ronda Hastings. The Hastings have been faithfully ministering on the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico since 2008. Our church, adults and teens alike, have a chance to see and be a help to the Hastings and the Navajo people. While there, we will be attending their Sunday worship service and will also be conducting a 3-day Vacation Bible School for the children in this community. For more information and details, please attend our meeting on Sunday, February 12 at 5:40 PM or you can contact Bro. Stephen at (903) 249-5331.

Jesus said, “For with God, nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)

Do we believe that? As individuals? As a nation? As a church? God is all-powerful and yet, sometimes we choose to believe that the problem that we are facing in life is too hard for God to solve. Or we have convinced ourselves that the darkness of the sin that we have committed is too dark for God to forgive. But the verse is still found in our Bibles today and the truth still rings true, “For with God, nothing shall be impossible.”

Maybe 2012 is the year for you to give up trying to solve every problem yourself. The year to remove the pressures of life from off your shoulders and placed upon the shoulders of the Almighty God, who not only has the power to change things, but also has the love and care to carry those burdens for you. When looking at the pressures, the failures, and the scars of your life stacked up against you, it may seem an impossible feat. And in our own strength, it is. But allow this year to be one of victory by the power of God, and not a defeat of our own! 2012…Nothing Impossible!

Yesterday I enjoyed listening to a rendition of the hymn “O Sacred Head Now Wounded”. It was written many years ago in German. In 1830 it was translated and updated by an American Presbyterian Pastor named Rev. J.W. Alexander. The hymn is long with eleven original stanzas.

On the version I have the singer ended the song with the sixth stanza. Notice the words:

What language shall I borrow to thank Thee, dearest friend,
For this Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end?
O make me Thine forever, and should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to Thee.

The last line struck me. Could it be that my love for God could diminish? The hymn writer had such a great love and devotion to God that he never wanted to live a life without Christ being the First in his heart.

That concept contrasts strongly with what Paul mentioned to Timothy in 2 Tim.4:10 “For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world”

Are you willing to let your love for God diminish while embracing this world?
